Stansted Airport Transfers: Pickup, Parking Charges and the £7 Drop-Off Fee
How Stansted airport transfers work: the mid-stay pickup point, the £7 forecourt drop-off charge, the free drop-off alternative and how long to allow.
London Stansted is a single-terminal airport, which makes transfers simpler than Heathrow or Gatwick — but the drop-off arrangements catch people out.
One terminal, clear layout
Everything runs from one terminal building. Ryanair dominates, with Jet2, TUI, easyJet and Wizz Air also operating. There is no terminal to get wrong.
Where cars pick up at Stansted
Pre-booked private hire cars collect from the Mid Stay car park, a short covered walk from the terminal via a walkway. With meet-and-greet, your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name board and walks you across. Without it, they wait in the Mid Stay and send you the zone and bay number.
The Stansted drop-off charge
Stansted charges £7 for up to 15 minutes at the Express Set Down right outside the terminal (2026 rate). Staying longer gets expensive quickly.
The free alternative is the Long Stay car park, which has a free shuttle bus to the terminal roughly every 10–15 minutes. It adds maybe 15 minutes to your journey. For a solo traveller with hand luggage that is an easy saving; for a family with checked bags and a tight schedule, the £7 forecourt fee is usually the better call. How early to leave for Stansted
- Ryanair and other short-haul: be at the terminal 2 hours before departure — Stansted security queues are notorious at 4–6am.
- Any long-haul: 3 hours before.
Because so many Stansted flights leave very early, a lot of our Stansted pickups are between 2am and 5am. Book the night before and the car will be outside on time.

Stansted is a popular departure point for stag and hen groups, ski trips and golf breaks. If that is you:
- 5–8 people: book an 8-seater minibus.
- Skis, golf bags, large prams and surfboards each count as roughly two standard suitcases — tell us at the time of booking so we send a vehicle with enough boot space.
