Manchester Airport Transfers: Terminal Guide and Booking Tips
Manchester Airport has three terminals and a big new one opening in phases. Here is how to pick the right terminal, where cars collect and how long to allow.

Manchester is the largest airport outside London and the busiest in the North. Its three terminals are undergoing a long redevelopment, so double-check your terminal close to travel.
Terminals 1, 2 and 3
- Terminal 1 — being wound down as the new Terminal 2 extension opens; still used by some airlines during the transition.
- Terminal 2 — the main and growing terminal; long-haul, TUI, many European carriers, and increasingly the airlines moving out of T1.
- Terminal 3 — Jet2, British Airways, Aer Lingus and several short-haul operators.
Your terminal is on your confirmation and the departures board, and it may differ from a previous trip on the same airline. Give us the flight number and we confirm it.
Where cars pick up at Manchester
Pre-booked private hire cars collect from the designated car park for each terminal, a covered walk from arrivals. Meet-and-greet means the driver is inside arrivals with a name board; a standard pickup means they wait in the car park and send you the location.
The Skylink walkways connect the terminals and the railway station if you need to move between them.
Manchester's drop-off charge
Manchester charges for terminal forecourt drop-off (around £5 for 5 minutes, 2026). There is a free drop-off at the JetParks sites with a shuttle bus. Same trade-off as elsewhere: travelling light, use the free option; travelling with a family and bags, pay the forecourt fee — it is in your quote.
Timing
- European short-haul: terminal 2 hours before departure.
- Long-haul: 3 hours before.
Manchester security can be slow during summer and half-term; the earlier end of the window is wise.
Group travel
Manchester is a common departure point for group holidays. For 5–8 passengers with luggage, book an 8-seater minibus; for larger parties, a 16-seater. For a full group with big cases, apply the "step up" rule and book one size larger than your headcount alone would suggest.
