Luton Airport Taxi: Pickup Zones, the DART and the Drop-Off Charge Explained

London Luton is compact and close to the M1, which makes it quick to reach from the Midlands and North London — but the pickup and drop-off setup has changed in recent years, so here is the current picture.

Getting the terminal right

Luton has one terminal. Easy. The airlines are mostly Wizz Air, easyJet, Ryanair, TUI and Jet2.

Where taxis pick up at Luton

Pre-booked cars collect from the Priority Pick-Up area or the multi-storey car park a short walk from the terminal. With meet-and-greet, the driver meets you inside arrivals with a name board. Otherwise they wait in the car park and message you the level and bay.

The DART (Luton DART) is the cable-hauled shuttle that connects the airport to Luton Airport Parkway railway station — useful to know if someone is meeting your onward train, but not part of a door-to-door transfer.

The Luton drop-off charge

Luton charges for drop-off at the closest set-down area (around £5 for 5 minutes, 2026, rising steeply after that). There is a free drop-off at the Mid Term car park with a shuttle bus to the terminal. As with the other London airports, light travellers save by using the free option; families with bags usually prefer the paid forecourt, and we include whichever you choose in the fixed price.

Timing for Luton's early flights

Luton runs a lot of 6am departures, which means 3:30–4:30am pickups.

• Short-haul: at the terminal 2 hours before departure.
• Long-haul (limited at Luton): 3 hours before.

Security queues at Luton spike early; do not cut it fine.
